March 2007 Pothole List

Seen any of these when you were out riding?
  • A pot hole?
  • Tree or limb in the road.
  • Loose sand at a corner or intersection?
  • A storm drain cover with bars turned parallel to traffic?

If you make a report, consider providing some non-identifying contact information. At least give yourself a nickname. This permits other riders to address questions by nickname to any discussion of problems and it will make it clear, when multiple reports of the same hazard appear, that it is a problem affecting the safety of more than just one person. Email addresses are never seen by anyone, not even the blog owner. But the blogging tool uses them as an anti-abuse measure.

Indicate whether you are reporting a hazard, discussing or augmenting some other report of a hazard or commenting otherwise, in a word, give a "Subject" so we can sort the comments quickly. To comment , click on the link at the bottom of the post that says how many comments their have been. This causes a comment form to pop up.

Supply the following information in the comment so fellow riders can be alerted and DPW's will have one more set of eyes helping them find hazards to fix.
  1. Town:
  2. Street: either street number, or distance from an intersection and which side of the road.
  3. What kind of hazard: Pothole, object in road, black ice, sand on road, missing or misaligned storm drain cover...
  4. Date of observation. Time of day may be helpful for transient conditions such as ice.

Hazard report

town: Lincoln
location: westbound lane of rt 2A just as you turn on to 2A from the Hanscome airport access road. There is a 2 foot by 6 foot patch of sunken pavement where a January trench operation has subsided. The drop below grade is even noticablel in a car.
When: this problem showed up soon after the backfill was patched but has become worse as the weather warms up.

NOTE: be very careful here when riding after dark. The visibility is low and the location is squarely in the road margin where cyclists usually travel. A last second swerve to avoid will put you out in part of the lane where cars travel.
